We are really proud of our runners – last year they raised in excess of £1.5m for charities and good causes across the UK and world-wide.
Without their hard work, training and dedication many charities would find it difficult to do their often vital work. We can’t think of a better way to crown your Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run glory than knowing your tired limbs have helped make money for essential charities. So why not have a look at the charities you could run for in 2011 (if you haven’t picked one already!)
Below you can access an alphabetical list of charities with links to associated websites. Browse this list and our adverts on the site to see which charities need your help in 2011.
If you represent a registered charity and would like to add details via the free ‘text only’ listing, please click here to submit your details. If your charity is already listed but you would like to update a listing, click hereand resubmit the correct details.
Opportunities will be available for registered charities to exhibit at the finish of the 2011 Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run in Glasgow Green. Whether you want to reward your dedicated fundraisers for completing this year’s event or raise awareness of your particular cause, a presence at the finish line charity village is a brilliant way to do it.
To register your interest please e-mail events@glasgowlife.org.uk
We offer charities premium advertising space on the Run Glasgow website. During 2009 the site had almost a third of a million visits and an average of 1,000 unique visitors per day in the run up to the race.
Why not take this opportunity to promote your particular charity. A range of costs are available to suit all organisations.

We want the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run to be open to as many people as possible and we actively welcome walkers and power walkers to participate. Should you intend to walk either the 10k or half marathon course it is advised however that you should have recent experience of walking a similar distance and should have completed an appropriate training programme.
On your race entry please ensure you clearly mark that you intend to walk the route. Please also select this option if you are undecided at the time of entry as to whether you may or may not walk the course. On race day you will be allocated to a start group at the rear of the main field and during the race we ask you to keep to the sides of the course in order to allow any runners who may have fallen behind you to pass.
In some instances other participants have experienced problems passing walkers who have linked arms in large groups or who have walked side-by-side. This is not appropriate race etiquette and we discourage such behaviour to ensure all participants have a safe and enjoyable race day experience.
Please read the race information booklet that you will receive in your entrants pack prior to the race carefully. Please be aware that if you are slower than anticipated and wish to continue the race after the roads have re-opened to traffic, you will need to leave the carriageway and continue on the pavements. A tail car and sweeper bus will be in operation, the tail car will drive the route at walking pace. As the tail vehicle approaches, participants will be asked to move on to the pavements and use pedestrian crossing points until the race finish, and in effect regard themselves as a pedestrian. For your own safety please be aware that all course and medical facilities will cease at this point.

Your predicted race time is very important to make sure you start the event beside entrants of a similar ability. If you are a first-timer it is sometimes hard to predict your time so here are some examples to help you. Remember it is better to over-estimate how long it will take you than under-estimate.
2011 race winner, Luke Traynor – 31 minutes! Blink and you missed him!
Miss Scotland, Jennifer Reoch – 54 minutes (under an hour is a very good time if you have trained properly and will run the full course. Well done Jen!)
Jogging the course only – about 1 hour and 25 minutes
Walking the whole course with good training – about 1 hour and 55 minutes.
The 2011 winner, Joseph Birech – 1 hour and 1 minute!
Top Scottish & UK club runners (people who run several times a week and cover loads of miles in training) – between 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 hour 25 minutes.
In Demand Scotland DJ Romeo – 1 hour and 55 minutes (any time under 2 hours is very good but will require several weeks of suitable training)
Jogging the course only – at least 2 hours and 30 minutes
Walking at a very brisk pace after good training – over 3 hours and 30 minutes.
You must submit your entry by 17 August 2012 to ensure your race pack will be posted to you in time for race day. You may still enter after this date but you or a representative will be required to collect your race pack from our race office on 31 August or 1 September 2012.
Please note – on race day itself, there will be no facility either to enter the race or collect Race Packs.

This is the 24th running of the Great Scottish Run, an event that has seen around 275,000 runners raise over £30million for charitable causes since 1982. The event takes place on Sunday 5 September 2005 and will feature the usual half marathon, 10k, and 3k race for junior runners aged 9 – 17. The event attracted a record entry of just over 15,000 last year.
Organisers Glasgow City Council aim to repeat this success in 2005, and once again the senior races will begin in George Square and will head to the city’s south side across the Kingston Bridge before finishing in the traditional manner on Glasgow Green.
As well as being a world class road race attracting past winners of the Olympic and London marathons, the FRESH’N’LO Great Scottish Run is a fantastic day out, with runners taking part in fancy dress for charity and great entertainment taking place along the route. People can benefit themselves and raise millions of pounds for charity by taking part in Scotland’s biggest participatory sports event. We are delighted that Robert Wiseman Dairies are once again the title sponsors of the event.”
Sandy Wilkie, sales and marketing director for Robert Wiseman Dairies said: “The Great Scottish Run is a Scottish institution and we are delighted to be supporting it and after the success of 2004’s run, very pleased that we have been able to commit to a further three years sponsorship.
“We view the run as a perfect partner for the FRESH’N’LO brand as they are both Scottish products which give a healthy, positive, fresh message. Lee and Susan are two Scottish athletes that the nation is very proud of and we are delighted to have them on board to launch the event. We wish everyone the best of luck in their training and look forward to being title sponsors of this great Scottish event once again.”
