Letter to Residents
Scotland’s largest mass participation event hits the streets again on Sunday 07th September with over 20,000 runners taking part in the 27th Lloyds TSB Scotland Great Scottish Run. It’s the run for everyone – from seasoned runners wanting to push themselves to the limit to those who are just wanting to get a bit fitter. This year’s 10k and half marathon routes will take runners from the city’s iconic George Square across the Kingston Bridge to the south side of the River Clyde taking in two of Glasgow’s most beautiful parks before finishing at the historic Glasgow Green. The event is renowned across the world for the friendly welcome that runners receive from the Glasgow public and, as in previous years, we hope that you will continue to help develop Glasgow’s reputation as the ‘Friendly City’ by coming out on the morning to give your support to the runners.
As ever the atmosphere on the day will be electric and there are many opportunities to become even more involved as one of our race volunteers; as a race steward, or assisting at one of the critical water stations or helping out at the start or finish. If this interests you then please get in touch with the Volunteers Coordinator tony.mckay@csglasgow.org
Contained in this pack is a map of the routes together with information on the times that the lead runners will pass several key city milestones and we hope this will prove useful to you in planning your movements on the day. Additionally, a street by street guide giving details of road closures is also enclosed to provide you with more specific information relating to your own area.
Start to Kingston Bridge
This year runners will again be congregating in and around George Square and the races will start in George Square at 09.00hrs (10k) and 10.30hrs (half marathon) with the start line located close to the Queen Street junction. After leaving George Square both routes will make use of St Vincent Place, St Vincent Street, Finnieston Street and will access Kingston Bridge using the Stobcross Road off ramp. These roads should be avoided on the morning of the races.

Please note that many of these roads will be closed from 08.00hrs and will reopen on a staged basis as the race progresses. Please refer to the street by street guide for more detailed information.
Please make sure that if you have a vehicle then you park nearby but off the above streets as it will be necessary to remove any cars at the start, along the route or at the finish.
This event is organised by Culture and Sport Glasgow and Glasgow City Council in conjunction with Strathclyde Police and, with your support, we plan to stage a successful event that highlights our wonderful city while ensuring that there is as little disruption as possible.
